If my neighbor calls in a false complaint can the police tell me who did it?

This is a hypothetical situation, but if my neighbor called the cops and lied about me to get them to come over to my house is she protected by privacy rights? I can understand why if you were turning someone in you might not want them to know it was you, but if she's lying to the police to get them to bother me, then that's harassment and I would want to press charges. That's slander and/or defamation of character. I have a neighbor that I have had problems with before and have filed harassment complaints against, and while I don't expect anything more to come of it, I want to know what I can do if she does try something like this.If my neighbor calls in a false complaint can the police tell me who did it?
if she tells the police to remain private then under no circumstances can you get the name. but, if its a false report, the cop may do something like point to the house and say something like ';well, this guy said you were doing.....'; you know. he may give you the name or house without knowing it. so yea, if it's false, i think the right to privacy gets revoked. If my neighbor calls in a false complaint can the police tell me who did it?
Sixth amendment to the Constitution, if it goes to trial, guarantees your right to be confronted with the witness against you.
If they called from their home phone, most definitely. If they call from a pay phone, then no.
When I go out on a complaint call we never tell you who called. I go out on the same complaint monthly. You may always sue and then obtain the information. If I take action on a complaint I am the witness not the person who called in the complaint.
The police could tell you the person but they wouldn't because it is a violation. The police know that you can do such harm to the neighbor and wouldn't want a lawsuit on their hands if something were to happen.
No the police has no obligation to tell you who called them in the first place, but the police has the name and the number of the person who called them for verification of the complaint imagine if they will not ask who/what/how question of the person calling them and complaining to the police about a problem, then they will not entertain such calls. They will considered them as frank calls. Yes she is protected by privacy rights that is why the police who will knock on your door has no obligation to you if ask who called them.

What to do with this false accusation is to file a different charges to your accuser. You need a lawyer to file the case in court, because until then they will reveal the identity of the accuser in court not necessarily in the police precint if you brought the complaint personally because they will protect the accuser if ever you decide to burn his house or whatever.
If they made the call annonymously, the cops can't arrest you. The police report will state who called and all the available details. Go to the station and get it.

But once when I lived in a condo I made an annon complaint in the middle of the night against these dopeheads living above. Like good little idiots, the cops came to *my* door afterwards to tell me ';nobody is there, did you call?'; in their midday tone of voice at 3:00am! Who were they to care about my safety anyway...
If I feel the need to tell you I will (often I will not). Unless they specifically request to have their name withheld during contact I am within my power to tell away. Often I will not tell though because I do not want to come back for a neighbor bickering contest.

Harassment is a crime dependent where you live. We only have phone harassment here. Harassment, slander, etc... is addressed in civil court and we have nothing to do with that (unless ongoing then we look at disorderly conduct charge)

If it is discovered your neighbor is constantly calling and filing false reports the officers and the department are within their rights to conduct an investigation into filing a false report charge if they so wish.
i used to be a 9-1-1 operator. no the police cant tell you who called by law. but if they keep calling and complaining about the same thing, the police will eventually get the jist that they are lying. so if they are coming out on a for ex. a noice complaint, but its all quiet, tell them to take a statement and be sure to put this in their report - ';'; i filed harassment charges on my neighbor (say name and address) and i feel like they are retaliating and i want this reported';'; and they will have to put that down every time. after about 3 calls they will charge your neighbor with something to make them stop calling. ie-ratalliatin on charges filed.
