Because most religions teach that sex before marriage is a sin and masterbating is viewed as something that kind of goes hand and hand with sex. If you are obstaining from sex, why would you stimulate sexual feelings on yourself that make it that much harder to keep your thoughts out of the gutter and yourself from having sex prematurely.





Also, most the time when people masturbate they end up looking at or watching some time of pornography, which in alot of churches is looked down upon b/c it makes a mockery of the sacredness of procreation and the bond between husband and wife and also b/c pornography is addictive and can lead to other acts of promiscuity (sp?)

Instead of turning to the desires of the “flesh” the Orthodox Christian turns to the “Holy Spirit”, whose fruits are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against these, there is no law. (Gal. 5:17-25). [
It's a sin in judaism, and I know the catholic church doesn't want good christians spilling their seed all over their moms Victoria's Secret catalogue. Buddhists frown upon, don't know about Islam or Hindu. I guess only protestants are the only religion not against slapping it around.
1) masterbation is a sin if you believe the made-up part of religion, probably made up by some jelous priest that cant masterbate due to an abnormality or something.


2) the church's attitude is that if it feels good, your going to hell.
I masturbated, my shame about it could have come from abuse, family or religion. My shame made me feel God was right there in the room with me and I felt so uncomfortable, like I was going to hell.





Archaic extremist Christians still believe this, moderate Christians don't.
I think it comes from the old days when you must loose your virginity to a woman and if you mastarbate you are breaking a sin because the first sperms are ment to enter a woman.
Because of some silly, outmoded beliefs established a LOOONNNNNGGGGG time ago by a book and then later expounded upon by a pope.
It probably comes from that verse about Onan spilling his seed on the ground. When I heard that as a small child I thought it was awfully careless of him.
